Area code 303 location: Where is it, and what cities does it cover?
Area code 303 is located in north-central Colorado, serving the Denver metropolitan area and nearby cities such as Boulder, Aurora, Lakewood, Littleton, Arvada, Westminster, and Centennial. Established in 1947 as one of the original area codes under the North American Numbering Plan, 303 originally covered the entire state before splits created 719 and 970. Today, it’s overlaid by area code 720, and both serve the same region.

The 303 area code is synonymous with Colorado’s capital city, Denver—a hub for business, government, outdoor recreation, and cultural attractions. Denver’s booming economy includes industries like technology, aerospace, energy, finance, and healthcare, alongside a vibrant food and craft beer scene. The Mile High City also offers quick access to the Rocky Mountains, making it a prime location for skiing, hiking, and adventure tourism.

Nearby Boulder is known for its entrepreneurial spirit, the University of Colorado, and its outdoor lifestyle, while suburban cities like Aurora and Lakewood provide thriving residential communities and commercial districts.

Whether you’re calling a tech startup in Boulder, a government office in downtown Denver, or a ski lodge booking service, a 303 number connects you to the economic, cultural, and recreational heart of Colorado.

Area code 303 is bordered by 970 and 719, and together with 720, it keeps the Denver-Boulder metro region well-connected.

Area code 719 location: Where is it, and what cities does it cover?
Area code 719 is located in southeastern Colorado, serving cities such as Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Cañon City, Alamosa, La Junta, Trinidad, and Salida. Created in 1988 as a split from area code 303, it covers a mix of urban centers, military hubs, and rural communities stretching from the Arkansas River Valley to the San Luis Valley.

The 719 area code is anchored by Colorado Springs, home to Fort Carson, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and Peterson Space Force Base, making it one of the most important military regions in the United States. The city also boasts a growing tech industry, a thriving tourism sector, and stunning natural attractions like Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak.

Pueblo offers a rich cultural history and is a center for manufacturing and steel production, while the surrounding rural areas contribute to agriculture, energy production, and outdoor recreation. The San Luis Valley in the south is known for its scenic beauty, wildlife refuges, and farming communities.

Whether you’re calling a defense contractor in Colorado Springs, a government office in Pueblo, or a mountain resort in Salida, a 719 number connects you to the economic, cultural, and natural heartbeat of southeastern Colorado.

Area code 720 location: Where is it, and what cities does it cover?
Area code 720 is located in north-central Colorado, serving the same geographic region as area code 303 through an overlay system. It covers the Denver metropolitan area and nearby cities such as Aurora, Boulder, Lakewood, Littleton, Westminster, Arvada, and Centennial. Introduced in 1998 to meet the growing demand for phone numbers in the rapidly expanding Front Range, 720 requires 10-digit dialing for all calls within the region.

The 720 area code is tied closely to the economic and cultural heartbeat of Colorado. Denver is a major hub for technology, aerospace, finance, energy, healthcare, and the state’s political center. Boulder adds an entrepreneurial and academic edge with the University of Colorado and a thriving startup community. Surrounding suburbs like Aurora and Lakewood offer diverse residential communities, shopping, and commercial growth.

Residents and visitors enjoy easy access to the Rocky Mountains, world-class skiing, and outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and rafting. Cultural attractions—from the Denver Art Museum to Red Rocks Amphitheatre—make the 720 region as appealing for lifestyle as it is for business.

Whether you’re calling a tech startup in Boulder, a government office in Denver, or a retail shop in Aurora, a 720 number connects you to the innovation, opportunity, and vibrant lifestyle of Colorado’s Front Range.

Area codes 720 and 303 border 970 to the north and west, and 719 to the south.

Area code 748 location: Where is it, and does it overlap with 970?
Area code 748 is located in northern and western Colorado and serves as an overlay to the existing 970 area code. Effective July 7, 2025, 748 was introduced to ensure a continued supply of phone numbers across the vast regions currently under 970 coverage.

This overlay includes key mountain and Front Range destinations such as Aspen, Breckenridge, Durango, Estes Park, Fort Collins, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Greeley, Loveland, Silverthorne, Steamboat Springs, and Vail.

While existing phone numbers retain the 970 area code, new lines issued as of July 7, 2025, may receive the 748 code instead.

To accommodate the addition, 10-digit dialing (area code + number) is required for all local calls, though emergency and community service numbers like 911 remain accessible via three-digit dialing.

Whether you’re calling a ski resort in Vail, a university office in Fort Collins, or a business in Grand Junction, a 748 number connects you to the iconic and rapidly evolving landscapes of northern and western Colorado.

Area code 970 location: Where is it, and what cities does it cover?
Area code 970 covers northern and western Colorado, including cities such as Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland, Grand Junction, Durango, Steamboat Springs, Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge, Estes Park, and Glenwood Springs. Created in 1995 as a split from area code 303, it serves a geographically vast region that includes ski resort towns, mountain communities, rural areas, and growing urban centers.

The 970 area code is known for its natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and tourism-driven economy. Fort Collins is a vibrant college town with Colorado State University and a booming craft beer industry. Grand Junction anchors the Western Slope with agriculture, wine production, and access to outdoor adventures. Mountain destinations like Aspen, Vail, and Breckenridge attract visitors from around the globe for skiing, hiking, and luxury retreats, while Durango offers historic charm and gateway access to the San Juan Mountains.

In July 2025, area code 748 was introduced as an overlay to 970, meaning new phone numbers in the same geographic region may now use either code. This change requires 10-digit dialing for all local calls.

Whether you’re calling a ski lodge in Vail, a brewery in Fort Collins, or a rafting company in Durango, a 970 number connects you to the mountain lifestyle, economic growth, and scenic landscapes of northern and western Colorado.

Area code 970 borders 303/720 to the south and east, 719 to the southeast, and also touches Wyoming, Utah, and New Mexico.

Area code 983 location: Where is it, and does it overlap with 303/720?
Area code 983 is located in north-central Colorado and serves as an overlay to the existing 303 and 720 area codes. It covers the Denver metropolitan area and nearby cities such as Aurora, Boulder, Lakewood, Littleton, Arvada, Westminster, and Centennial. Officially introduced in June 2022, 983 was created to meet the growing demand for phone numbers in one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States.

Because it’s an overlay, 983 does not replace existing numbers—current 303 and 720 phone numbers remain the same—but new lines in the region may now be assigned a 983 area code. 10-digit dialing is required for all calls within the region.

The 983 area code region is a major hub for technology, aerospace, healthcare, government, and tourism. Denver, the state capital, anchors the economy, while Boulder brings innovation through its startup culture and the University of Colorado. Suburban communities like Aurora and Lakewood offer diverse neighborhoods, growing commercial centers, and quick access to the Rocky Mountains.

Whether you’re calling a tech company in Boulder, a government agency in Denver, or a retail business in Aurora, a 983 number connects you to the economic, cultural, and outdoor lifestyle heartbeat of Colorado’s Front Range.
